So long So. Cal
So tomorrow marks the end of the time we spent in Southern California. From the nursing view I saw and learned a lot. Not only did I see another hospital and the ways of said place, I got to learn how a different group of people live, work and play. I was allowed to part of many peoples lives, to be a person involved in hard days, sad days, and scary days. I hope I served you all well.
Now it wasn't just work....The beauty is what is hard to leave behind...
It is a stunning place here. To drive around and be surrounded by the ocean, mountains, hills and valleys. Nothing is not breath-taking and remarkable. I remember one night in particular. At work I was sent to receive a patient from the heli-pad. My luck was in order. The sun was setting on the most amazing vista I have ever seen. From the roof of the hospital there was a surreal quietness as the ocean was off in the distance and the remaining view was of the mountains. The mountains that looked like arms wrapping themselves around such a wonderful and inspiring place.
Not that work was the only place that I remember. Living in our little beach cottage has been amazing.
We wake to the sun! Who would complain about that?? Every time we take a walk with the dog we see the expansive and vast blue ocean that seems to kiss the sky and become one. The sound of the water as we walk and feel the cool sand in between out toes, the water gently rolling over our feet...amazing. The senses are overwhelmed here. Sights unseen, tastes un-had, sounds unheard! All things that we, I haven't experienced anywhere else.
It was hard to leave Mission Hospital. The friends that I made there, the memories that were shared. Like many places, it was time to go at the end. There was the feeling that I have grown used to of being ready to move on. I hope that I left an impression there, made an impact, more importantly made a difference. That is the goal right? To leave a place with people wanting to be better at what it is we do. Nursing is not just my profession or my career, it is my life. Anything I do is because I care enough to do it. Making breakfast, cleaning, cooking, whatever it may be, I care.
So Denver here we come. Mr & Mrs W. Headed to make a difference in the next place and start another adventure. What it will bring, I know not. What I will see, I can't imagine. I know this...I will be with my partner, my now husband...hand in hand.
