An Image speaks a THOUSAND words (or miles)

Today while sitting listening to the waves crash on the beach, my husband sent me a photo. This is nothing new or out of the ordinary. You know, we have children.....we send each other photos all the time. Today though...this photo took my breath away.

Want to see it...OK...here goes.

It is no secret that we are gone a lot. None. Sometimes though I forget how much it actually is...This photo is the last two years. Yes I said TWO years. You see all those red dotes, those are all the places that WE as a family have traveled together. Andy, Gus, Oliver, myself and often times our two dogs...(we will miss you Mr. B).

In the last two years we have had to say no to many family functions, birthday parties, dates, nights out, game nights, and well anything that the majority of people do with friends and family. Saying no all the time makes it hard to form really deep relationships and bonds with people, kids and adult friends. It can get very lonely and very sad to always feel like you live in this giant world with just your family unit. In that time though amazing friendships have been re-visited and many new friendships made.

At the same time...I look at this map and I see all the amazing experiences my family and I have been able to experience together. Our children have seen the ocean from many points of view, spoken French, spoken Spanish, crossed borders, had their passports stamped, laughed, cried and lived their little lives all over. How amazing is that?

I stared at this photo this afternoon trying to remember moments from each of these little dots. Many came flooding in while others were just a blip on my minds memory.

What is the moral or point of me writing tonight...I don't actually know.

I do know that our life is what it is.  We don't really know any different. It is crazy, complicated, frustrating, fun, exciting and most of all ours!
Our kids are good travelers and they roll with it. Life won't always be filled with tons of little red dots all over a map, but until then I can't wait to see what happens to that map in the next two years.
