Scooby Doo and Jurassic Park
Any parent of any child will attest to the magical qualities that are cartoons and movies.
Before we had children Andy and I would say all the time how we would "never" let our kids become obsessed with TV or movies. That we would encourage them to love simple books and blocks, nothing like a fake computer or phone....HA! We learned that sometimes the 30 minute break you get from letting your child watch Sesame Street or Daniel Tiger are the best 30 minutes of your day. Sometimes you need the "netflix babysitter" so you can get dinner made, take a shower, or just not hear "mama...mama...MAMA" all day.
I fully admit that both my children REALLY like to watch shows. Actually Oliver wakes up asking to watch Cars. Yes, I said that. Everyday he asks for it and everyday he is in tears when we say that we will not be watching a movie at 5am.
Yesterday we had a really interesting event take place.
After a VERY long road trip we got to the hotel and got settled in. Gus asked if he could watch "a kid show" while we un-packed. Andy put on Scooby-Doo...the only channel that was in English and we got to work. Gus immediately started to ask for one of us to hold his hands, sit next to him and hold him because this was a scary scary kid show. Um, WHAT?! This was coming from the kid who at three years old LOVED watching Jurassic Park and Transformers. Seriously, Jurassic Park, ALL of them. Never once was he scared of anything in those movies. After we finished the episode of Scooby-Doo Gus couldn't stop talking about the scary monster and green smoke. So much so that while walking to dinner he was crying about the monster and the scary green smoke.
So let's fast forward. We feed the kiddos dinner, bathe them, put them to bed and start to relax (also known as falling asleep watching a movie.) All of a sudden Gus is SCREAMING and crying. Andy runs into the other room to check on him and he is shaking and terrified. All of us snuggle up in our bed (obviously Oli is already in there b/c he is on a sleep ban) and G wont stop talking about the scary monster in "Scooby-Dooby-Dooby" and how the green smoke is going to get him in his bed...WHAT?!
Needless to say it was a sleepless night here for the W's; well the adults at least.
I find this odd.
Cheers
